Tree trimming is the removal of branches for clearance, appearance, or access. It differs from pruning in that the primary driver is usually external. You need the tree to stop touching the roof. You need the driveway cleared. You need a sight line opened up. You need the canopy lifted so foot traffic can move under it comfortably.
Trimming can overlap with pruning when the branches being removed are also dead or structurally problematic, but the defining purpose of trimming is managing the tree in relation to the space around it.
Trees grow continuously, and most properties have at least one tree that needs trimming every few years to maintain appropriate clearance from structures or access paths.
Branches touching or rubbing against a roof cause wear to shingles and can provide a pathway for insects to access the home. Branches over gutters drop debris that blocks drainage. Low-hanging limbs over driveways or walkways can obstruct vehicles and pedestrians. Branches growing toward power lines need to be managed before they make contact. Dense canopies that block light from reaching the home, patio, or lawn can be lifted and thinned through trimming.
Scheduling trimming before a tree makes contact with a structure is less costly and less disruptive than dealing with the contact after it has already caused wear or damage.

We assess the tree before any trimming begins, identifying which branches need to be removed and what the safest approach is for each. We consider the weight of each branch, how it is attached, and what is below the work zone.

Larger branches are not dropped free. We rig and lower heavy sections to avoid impact on the lawn, surrounding plantings, fencing, or any structures in the drop zone.

Cuts are made at the appropriate location on each branch, outside the branch collar. This allows the tree to respond correctly and seal the cut over time. Flush cuts and stub cuts both interfere with the tree's natural wound response and are not part of how we work.

All removed material is cleared from the property. If the homeowner wants the wood left for firewood or the chips left as mulch, we accommodate that. Otherwise, everything leaves with us.
Maintaining clearance between your trees and your structures reduces wear, pest access points, and storm damage risk. Branches rubbing against a roof during wind events cause cumulative shingle damage over time. Branches that make contact with a structure during a storm can cause immediate damage.
Regular trimming also keeps trees healthier by removing growth that has extended beyond what the tree can structurally support, and by reducing density in areas where air circulation and light penetration have been reduced.
Working with a professional crew means the trimming gets done without damage to the tree from improper cuts, and without risk to your property from branches that are not controlled on the way down.
We are fully insured professionals committed to protecting your property.
Tree Pruning addresses structural & health-driven branch removal that goes beyond clearance trimming.
Tree Removal is the appropriate step when a tree has grown to the point where trimming can no longer manage its relationship to the structures around it.
Arborist Tree Services provides assessment for trees that may have health issues contributing to excessive or abnormal growth patterns.
